The Garden Café, off the pool at the Conrad Hotel, is in many ways just what you’d expect from a hotel café. That said, the mostly predictable lunch buffet—complete with the usual roast station, and selection of Chinese, Western and Indian hot dishes—boasts some truly lovely fresh seafood, and the a la carte menu dishes are also strong. Highlights include a very good burger—cooked to a perfect medium rare and topped with a thick and runny fried egg—and a surprisingly authentic reuben sandwich. The crowd is the usual group of families and tourists. The service, though friendly and well-meaning, is hit or miss—it was excellent for most of the meal until the end when we were forgotten entirely. Unfortunately the prices are silly expensive. HK$245 for a sandwich, even a very good sandwich, seems a bit much.
