Ever since its opening, The Market at Hotel Icon has been a legend of sorts, as reservations require at least weeks ahead and even longer during the festive season. It’s worth the wait though, as the buffet demonstrates the hotel kitchen’s strength in offering an authentic taste of South-East Asia through its selection of gourmet dishes, from a umami-rich laksa lemak, to signature Hainese chicken rice and Singaporean black pepper crab. While the selection may not be as extensive as other hotels in the neighbourhood, the quality and execution are both top-notch and offers little disappointment. The dessert corner specialises in bite-sized cut cakes and various mousses served in petit cups. Durian-lovers will get an extra sweet ending with the café’s signature array of durian cakes, tarts, and pastries made with the ever-popular Musang King durian.
