If you love Spanish food, there is no doubt you’ve already heard about 22 Ships, Jason Atherton’s new tiny tapas bar that was due to open in Wan Chai this October. We’re pleased to report that it has finally opened and from now until Wednesday (October 17), diners will receive 50% off their food bill during this soft-opening period.

Naturally, we went along last night to take advantage of this, and we are pleased to report that it was pretty close to what we expected, that is, a solidly good neighbourhood tapas bar. Be warned though, it truly is tiny and even though we showed up at 6.15pm (22 Ships opened for dinner at 6pm), we still waited for 45 minutes.

The portions are small, allowing us to sample a lot of the tapas and among our favourites were the scallop ceviche with yuzu dressing, cucumber and apple; the eggs with chorizo and potato; the very tender suckling pig; and as chef Atherton himself promised in our interview here, the Iberico pork burgers with foie gras, pickled cucumber and avocado were to-die-for.

Look out for our longer review in November once the restaurant has settled down.
