Aurora is an elegant sanctuary in heart of the bustling city featured by a spectacular view of the Macau peninsula from across Taipa. The understated dining room with classy and spacious setting is complemented by an open kitchen that serves as a stage front for the culinary team. The breezy terrace is a terrific retreat to relax, enjoy a sunset drink as well as a family hangout. Perfect for celebrated occasions, the two private dining rooms each have their own charm with one set amidst the glass-encased wine cellar and the other boasts a lovely view and intimacy.
With focus on using a diverse range of premium ingredients, Aurora serves up a menu combining regional Italian cooking and classical French training with new chef Helder Amaral on board. A beautiful taster of fine de claire topped with caviar and crème fraiche makes for a fantastic start. The homemade bread basket with beetroot and garlic grissini is tempting but the starters are worth saving room for. It’s a pleasure watching the orange slow-cooked Japanese egg yolk ooze over the creamy braised leek and devouring it with the parma ham and shaved parmesan. The signature Australian wagyu beef carpaccio is beautifully presented and rich in flavors and textures, thanks to the special complements of fried quail egg, espresso aioli and citrus vanilla. Fresh pasta is the natural choice for main course at Aurora and we order the chitarra with seafood. Despite delicious texture of the pasta and the flavor-packed seafood sauce, it’s a shame that the scallops, octopus and fish filets imported from Italy are overcooked and dried, and overall too salty for our taste. The beautiful layout of the roasted lamb rack with eggplant parmigiana is more impressive than the overdone meat, but it is a satisfying dish nonetheless. By end of the meal the staff will bring out their house made limoncello brewed with Buddha’s hand citron with a pre-dessert lemon meringue jelly to refresh your palate. Continuing on the Italian tradition we opt for the house signature dessert, a show-stopping rendition of a classic tiramisu. Layers of fluffy mascarpone cream, lady fingers and espresso jelly are served in a reclined wine glass with a rich and delightful Blue Mountain coffee ice cream. Don’t forget to check out the cheese trolley with some soft and creamy Riobiola and pungent testun both from Piemonte, along with homemade fruit bread and more. The selection of cheeses is wonderful for creating the perfect cheese platter to complete an enjoyable evening.
