The steakhouse creates a bright and airy atmosphere by letting plenty of sunlight through floor-to-ceiling windows. Perhaps to make use of the gorgeous view of the Victoria Harbour, there isn’t much that’s worthy of note about the décor. Save for a large chalkboard with doodles of cows and specials of the day, not much personality can be observed from the interiors. The air conditioning is turned up high, so make sure to bring a light jacket and enjoy your hot courses as soon as they’re served.
Given BLT Steak’s stellar reputation as a steakhouse, we expected a lot from the beef. With a smoky crust and a tender insides packed with tasty fats, the American USDA filet did not disappoint. The taste is further enhanced by a subtly spiced peppercorn sauce and an excellent béarnaise sauce, two of the four options presented alongside the skillet. The sauces continued to be an important highlight of the evening, with the mint jelly sauce bringing the herb-crusted rack of lamb to life: on its own, the lamb was a tad too dry and unremarkable, but the refreshing mint jelly sauce brought out the best of the lamb meat. We were also pleasantly surprised by the side dishes, as they proved to be a delightful and highly memorable element of our dining experience. Served on a piping hot skillet, each bite of the rigatoni from the black truffle mac and cheese is creamy and fragrant — exactly what one hopes for in a comfort food dish. With a thick and cheesy top crust, the potato gratin Forezien served its purpose as the ultimate comfort food.
The wine menu offers about five reds and five whites by-the-glass, with an extensive cellar selection by the bottle. The Reserva Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina is made from a rich and dark berry, offering just the right complexity to go with the filet.
The service was swift and the waiters were polite, but they seem to need some time reacquainting with the menu: our waiter was unable to recommend a main course or a wine to go with said dish.
Our bill came to about HK $1,800 for a dinner for two – quite worth the price tag if you are a big fan of a well-executed and classic steak.
