Setting

Entered from the grandiose lobby of the Peninsula Hotel Gaddi's remains a bastion of tradition as guests are greeted formally, seated to their table and addressed by their correct surnames. A flurry of properly attired waiters will descend upon you in a non intrusive manner as you are handed leather bound menus. Evenings offer the romance of candlelit tables and the soft keys of a piano as the glorious chandelier shimmers across the dance floor. Widely spaced beautifully set tables covered in crisp white linen set the tone for an evening of utmost elegance.

Food

Gaddi's delivers perfection on a plate. It is an expected menu with magical touches under the guidance of Chef Remi Van Peteghem who understands the tradition of the restaurant and the need to deliver a degree of modernity to the menu. Vendéen pigeon breast roasted with Muscovado sugar, stuffed leg and glazed root vegetables is divine as it raises an expected game flavour to an exciting new infusion of texture, taste and the glorious colour of pink so beautifully achieved, simply gorgeous. A piece of wild turbot from the Brittany coast with celery and black truffle is equally wondrous; the turbot cooked to perfection as it sits amongst a sea of truffle infused froth, the amalgamation of subtle flavours lingering long after each mouthful; both dishes reflect the passion of the kitchen and the delicacy of their hands in creating flavour that harmonises like an orchestra. Dessert is always an indulgence and Gaddi's knows how to entice; opting for a traditional crepe suzette cooked tableside with the utmost skill delivering a mouth watering orange and Grand Marnier crepe paired with freshly made vanilla infused ice cream, perfection indeed.

Wine

As befits a restaurant of this grandeur some of the world’s finest vintages are offered yet a more humble selection of old and new world wines are also available. A good selection is available by the glass with some unusual producers offering guests a variety seldom seen.

Service

Faultless! Trained to the highest levels there is no request beyond them, awareness of every aspect of the menu and the restaurant is answered knowingly. Glasses are always refilled and the silent manner they observe yet never intrude is all part of the tradition of Gaddi's.

Price   $$$$$

Perfection come at a price and an evening meal for two with a humble wine will cost over HK$3,000.
