The Jade de Jardin is located at the 6th floor of the Starworld hotel Macau and the restaurant has an opulent feel to it, flash chandeliers, mirrored pillars and lots of bright, bold colours with a décor influenced by Shanghai’s past. There are private rooms and seating booths available, which is a nice touch.
King Mang Jade Garden Group restaurant brand, first opened in 1999 and now with numerous branches located throughout Shanghai. The Jade de Jardin Shanghainese restaurant at the Starworld hotel Macau offers high quality traditional dim sum for lunch and Shanghainese a la carte. We tried the house special steamed reeves shad, which came steamed with a succulent broth flavoured with ginger, stock, Yunan ham and Chinese mushrooms. Next was the Vietnamese-style grainy beef, this was excellent. The meat was juicy and tender and the skin was a nice crispy golden-brown. The house special braised pork was a bit heavy but delicious, the meat was tender and succulent. The idea was to keep the dish simple and let the quality of the meat speak for itself.
The overall wine selection was rather limited, basic standard wines with a choice of two Portuguese on the list, uninteresting Australian bottles and French Bordeaux’s, which was on the higher end price range.
Competent service and the staff are genuinely friendly and attuned to the needs of diners, the servers was delightful and seems to be well-versed with the menu.
A dinner for two should cost around MOP800 with a much cheaper option for dim sum lunch. Need to book in advance for lunch as it is such a popular venue.
