Located on the first floor of New World Millennium Hotel, interiors of La Table features shades of gold and purple, exhibiting a sense of grandeur and elegance, complete with chandeliers. A glass-encased wine cellar lines one side of the restaurant, while windows on the opposite side open to Café East just next door. Evenings can get a little noisy, with live music playing in the hotel’s lobby audible from within the restaurant.
La Table specialises in its semi-buffet offerings, with a simple one-page menu presented on an iPad for guests to peruse. For dinner, the succinct selection of appetisers from the buffet table may include fresh seafood such as crab legs, prawns, and mussels; cold cuts of meat; as well as a series of salad options. For mains, we enjoyed the tender grilled beef fillet; served with gratin potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and thyme jus, the meat was cooked as requested while maintaining a juicy interior. The baked whole Boston lobster thermidor was our favourite dish of the evening; the sweet flesh highlighted the freshness of the crustacean, which was accompanied by roasted baby potatoes. For dessert, diners may take their pick from the buffet table. While there are a number of cakes on offer, we recommend the cheese selections.
Here, you will find a wide selection of French wines spanning various regions, as well as a good variety of new world labels. Bottles begin at approximately HK$450 each, and soar to HK$25,500 for a 1994 Château Lafite-Rothschild 1er Cru Classé.
Friendly and efficient, wait staff discreetly clearing away used tableware. However, we found it difficult at times to get the attention of servers.
At HK$598 per person for a semi-buffet meal, we find the price to be reasonable. Expect a supplementary charge of around HK$298 if you want to change your main course to a lobster dish.
