Whether you choose to sit in the main dining room or opt for a private room, you will be met with impeccable standards of fine dining at Regal Court. The entrance to the restaurant is decorated with fine Chinese art and antiques. Although simple, the restaurant’s décor and setting is catered to hearty Chinese eating and thus, the tableware is simple porcelain.
We decided to mix it up between the Sichuan and Cantonese delicacies served at the restaurant. To begin, we started with the wonton noodle soup. While we slurped and guzzled down the soup, which is hearty, warm and comforting, the manager let us know that we had ordered one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes. It didn’t let us down. Next, we went one of the restaurant’s signatures, stir-fried chicken with dried chilli. As a fan of spice, we dove into this one expecting extreme heat. However, the spice level was slightly lower than anticipated and instead, we were met with some mouth-tingling peppercorns. Still, the dish proved to be a treat. We also ordered the sautéed garoupa with vegetables in XO sauce, another Regal Court speciality. The fish was cooked perfectly and was soft enough to break with light pressure of the fork. Seasoned and covered with XO sauce, the fish was sautéed impeccably, with crunchy vegetables as an accompaniment. For dessert, we went with a traditional mango and pomelo sago. Served chilled, the combination of sweet mango and tart pomelo was refreshing.
The wine list at Regal Court is comprehensive and includes a variety of vintages from different regions and boutiques. However, the tea at the restaurant is worth skipping wine for, as it beautifully pairs with and complements the menu.
We were impressed with the service at the restaurant. The manager was very hands-on and kept checking on us. Additionally, he explained each dish and always ensured his staff were on top of table service.
With a glass of wine each and a few signature dishes from the menu, a meal here will cost approximately HK$900 for two, which is a great deal.
