Located on the ground floor of the Lippo Centre, Ruth’s Chris recreates the authentic American dining experience in the heart of the city. The dark wood interior, plush leather booths and dim lighting set the tone for more intimate affairs.
The menu at Ruth’s Chris features a wide selection of American steakhouse fare, including Ruth’s Chop Salad, an interesting take on coleslaw, but we feel it just misses the mark in terms of taste. The Barbequed Shrimp on the other hand was our favourite, Sautéed New Orleans style in a reduced white wine vinegar sauce, with butter, garlic and spices. Served with garlic bread, the shrimps were juicy and the sauce had us going back for seconds. Ruth’s Chris specializes in custom-aged beef. We recommend the filet, 11 ounces of corn-fed premium USDA beef, cooked medium-rare. Our steaks were served on sizzling hot plates, the meat still cooking as it was being served. They were well cooked to begin with, but found they got a little bit overcooked as we were having our meal. We also felt that the dish was lacking visually and more could be done in terms of presentation.
There is a wide variety of wine to choose from, ranging from approximately HK$500 - HK$3000. The staff was more than happy to offer recommendations and suggest wine pairings. We enjoyed a bottle of Domaine Drouhin Pinot Noir, which complimented the steak beautifully.
Servers were friendly and mindful of our needs without feeling too overbearing. They were careful not to intrude and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal.
At around HK$2,000 for a three-course meal for two, we felt that this was a fair price for a quality American steakhouse dinner.
