Wine Dinner at Xiao Nan Guo
Pairing wines with Shanghainese food can be quite challenging as the relatively oily and strong-flavoured cuisine needs a good heavy-bodied wine to match. On May 2, Xiao Nan Guo at One Peking will team up with Spanish wineries Jean Leon and Torres to take on this challenge. General manager of the vineyard, Mireia Torres Maczassek, will be present at the dinner and explain her wine selections for the night.
The wine dinner begins with Gigi Chardonnay 2008 and a sampler of Xiao Nan Guo's signature appetisers including drunken chicken, smoked fish, marinated jellyfish, black fungus and little yellow croaker, followed by the chef's signature sweet-and-fragrant soup made with salted and fresh pork, fish maw and sea cucumber. Highlight of the night will be the pairing of a reserve cabernet sauvignon with braised Hokkaido scallops in abalone sauce, and the Shanghainese delicacy braised pork belly. The wine dinner will finish on a sweet note with floral jasmine tea pudding and sweet wine Moscatel Oro.
The 11-course tasting dinner with five pairing wines is priced at HK$588 per person.
